SUBJECT OVERVIEW

The ICT department consists of a small team of specialist teachers.  Our aim is to offer a wide range of courses across all Key stages that will enable students to become confident users of ICT and understand how ICT is used in the real world. Courses are planned to be interesting, challenging and help broaden the students skills and knowledge of ICT.

KEY STAGE 3

At Key Stage 3 students studying ICT work through a vast range of topics  and packages some of which include Scratch, Microsoft Office, Serif  Multimedia suite and much more.

Key Stage 3 students  can expect to complete a range of exciting tasks such  as programming a computer game, designing a stop frame animation and producing a professional website.  To accompany these exciting tasks pupils will develop important skills within Office such as working with spreadsheets and databases.

Students are assessed via the outcomes they produce when solving the scenarios they have been set during each unit and a work booklet that consists of classwork and homework tasks.

KEY STAGE 4

At Key Stage 4 students will follow the BTEC Tech Award in Digital Information Technology, the qualification builds on learning from Key Stage 3 for those who may wish to explore a ICT route throughout Key Stage 4. The BTEC Tech Award qualification is designed to inspire students to become technology savvy and allows them to gain a variety of computer skills and understanding to broaden creative IT experience.
