REWARDS AND BEHAVIOUR CODE

The school system is based on the principles of ‘Positive Discipline’. We believe in rewarding good behaviour but have clear policies in place which inform students about sanctions. This system is

adhered to rigorously.

The school is keen to reward good work and conduct. Students are awarded ‘House Points’ for good work, conduct, attendance and punctuality across the school from Years 7 to 13. When a certain number of House Points is reached, students are issued with rewards. Prize lists are publicised around the school and students can exchange their points for prizes of their choice from the appropriate level. The number of House Points accrued is re-set each year. Students begin the year on 100 House Points. The table below summarises the system.

There is a weekly celebration of good attendance, punctuality and conduct in tutor time. Tutors will issue extra points during this time.

There is also an ‘Awards Night’ every year, which recognises outstanding achievement amongst Students.

In addition, those students who have 100% attendance are entered into a termly draw to win cash prizes.

Celebration of success is one of the most important aspects of education at The Whitby High School and this is recognised through the school newsletter, local press and school promotional materials.
