International Links

At The Whitby High School, we have always promoted and valued a broad curriculum offer to enrich the learning experience of students, and our international offer is at the forefront of this. Traveling to different countries allows students to gain a broader perspective on global issues, cultures, and traditions. It also helps develop their intercultural understanding and empathy towards people from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, international trips allow students to experience new languages, cuisines, and ways of life, which can broaden their horizons and foster personal growth. International trips can also provide students with the chance to apply their classroom learning to real-world situations, enhancing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Our international links programme offers students a variety of excursions in Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. The Whitby High School also offers trips both in Europe and beyond. Students from the Whitby High School have visited Germany, France, Iceland, South Africa, Austria, the USA and Cambodia in recent years and a new fantastic opportunity to Kenya is also planned. Our links with several partner schools in multiple countries offer us the ability to provide our students with an international links offer that is unmatched in the area.  We have also used funding from the Turing Scheme to help fund recent trips overseas and there are funding opportunities available to our students through the Chairman’s Trust in Cheshire West. 

Our International links offer as well as our wider curriculum also allows our students to:

• gain a better appreciation of other cultures and what is happening in the wider world
• promote better communication and literacy by allowing our students to write to students abroad
• understand that decisions and actions taken individually and locally have a genuine impact in a foreign country
• celebrate the rich and diverse heritage represented both in our school and in local and national communities and value and respect different cultures
• develop links with schools in other countries
• work on agreed projects with fellow students and colleagues in other schools and host students and colleagues in own our school to work on projects 
• welcome to our school teachers and students from other countries
